THE grieving family members of a Mayfield man killed in a wall collapse at a Wyong construction site have been dealt another blow after it was revealed they would not receive a life insurance payout.

Robert Watson, 50, was part of a construction crew building a clubhouse at the Kooindah Waters Golf Resort when part of a brick wall gave way and crushed him just after 2pm on Thursday.

He was a father of nine children.

Mr Watson's family was told later they would not receive a death benefit from his superannuation fund Cbus because his employer, Gallim Constructions, was not up to date with superannuation contributions.

The Construction Forestry Mining Energy Union said Mr Watson's family lost between $50,000 and $100,000, because the mandatory superannuation contributions had not been paid.

In a statement provided to The Herald Mr Watson's wife, Kathy, said her husband's death could have been avoided.

"I would like to express my concern and grief at the loss of my husband Robert, I am now a widow and my eight children have been left without a father," Mrs Watson said.

Gallim Constructions did not return The Herald's calls for comment.
